The penultimate episode of any season (I’m calling this one penultimate since the final two were broadcast as a single episode) can either be one of two things: awesome setup for the finale, or a slightly low-key place-holder. Good episode, but - wow, the overarching storyline of this show (and its mythology) really is getting convoluted, isn’t it. There’s just so much stuff going on, elements getting introduced and then dropped, only to be picked up several episodes later, so many new characters that are both important and yet dispensable at the same time, so many balls ( Read more... )

Well, this is officially my favourite episode thus far. The plot was a change from the usual defeat-the-monster-of-the-week, every featured character had something interesting to do, we got a look at Ichabod's darker side, there was lots of continuity, and insight into several key aspects of the show itself. So ding-ding-ding, we have a winner!

Only a few things to say this time around as I was sick this morning and I'm still feeling blah. But this was a decent episode, which picked up almost immediately after the events of last week and ended on a (sort of) cliffhanger, making it feel like quite a transitory episode.

This was probably the best episode since the premiere: a genuinely twisty plot, a Monster of the Week that felt consequential, an important turning-point for Abbie’s acceptance of herself as a witness, more background on what’s up with Katrina, and providing Ichabod with a permanent residence.

So like last week, this episode was low on plot but high on character. Again the emphasis was on Abbie rather than Ichabod, but in terms of the story it veered more towards National Treasure than Supernatural. So this week’s Sleepy Hollow changed tracks a little, or at least it felt like it did. This time around the focus is on Abbie, giving us more insight into her background and relationship to her sister whilst Ichabod plays a supporting role (and Katrina is nowhere to be seen). "Blood Moon” was exactly what I expected from the second episode of this show - not that that’s a bad thing. The writers are still establishing the character dynamics, building up their mythos and sowing seeds for the future, which means that all the stuff about the witch was actually less important than the scenes involving Ichabod/Abbie bonding, ( Read more... )
